Aretha Nadine is a self taught artist from Nashville, Tennessee. In gratitude, she recognizes the gift of having been raised on The Farm commune where creativity and ample time in nature was encouraged. She is also grateful for creative parents, a few wonderful public school art teachers, and friends that have encouraged her artistic pursuits. She says of her work, “I am drawn towards art and imagery and its ability to reflect what words sometimes fail to convey. My portraits pull from the faces in my life: my neighbors, friends, family, my daughter. My feather series are pulled from boxes of feathers that I have collected over the years, found objects that I find both precious and sacred.”
By day Aretha has practiced and taught Iyengar Yoga for over two decades. Aretha also holds a BA and MA in the Classics from Vanderbilt University. Her life’s work in its many forms stems from an endless curiosity and devotion to art, shape, movement, and composition.
Aretha has shown her work at Jalan-Jalan, Artclectic, the Custom’s House Museum and in private gallery showings. You can find her most recent work up at Reed-Smythe. You can follow Aretha on Instagram @arethanadine if you want to keep up with her current work and musings on life.
